Letter to Surrey Advertiser
Correspondents to the Surrey Advertiser regularly make reference to the option of refurbishing the Civic Hall instead of redeveloping it. There are many misconceptions that have been allowed to fester for far too long without being addressed in a consultative rather than dismissive way. Perhaps it serves party politics better this way; it does no favours to Guildford whatsoever.
The existing structure (physically robust though it may appear to be) suffers from its inability to insulate noise. Guildford Borough Council is the authority responsible for serving noise abatement notices and, if necessary, closing down an operation if it falls outside legal limits. If the Council does not act, it can be forced to take action by the Local Authorities’ Ombudsman.
